A well-to-do Jewish family in Italy in the late 1930s live in their walled compound of a home, separating themselves from the outside world until political realities impose upon them. This visually stunning film is masterfully directed by Vittorio De Sica (The Bicycle Thief) and stars Dominique Sanda, Lino Capolicchio, and Helmut Berger. Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Film, 1972.
