San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
On Saturday July 28, for the first time ever, the Gamelatron's five orchestras will be simultaneously live on three continents in five sonic hot spots. In San Francisco we're combining this milestone sounding with a fundraiser for Black Rock City's Temple of Juno. Join us foran afternoon of special classes, an 8:30 PM live full orchestra Gamaletron concert journey of exquisite original compositions, performances, a silent auction of one-of-a-kind creations and afterparty.
CLASS SCHEDULE: ***ALL CLASSES ACCOMPANIED BY THE GAMELATRON***
4pm Yoga for Technophiles with Michelle Nayeli
Wake your body, unwind those technology nerves and muscles, learn some functional anatomy and find a deeper sense of internal alignment on the way! All levels welcome, yoga-intimidated encouraged. Bring a mat!
5pm Chi Kung with Universal Tao instructor David Hermele and Geoff Kuffner
Gentle, powerful movements, breath and awareness harmonizes the universal forces within. This class invigorates, relaxes, tunes, connects. Open to beginners through advanced chi afficionados.
6pm Prana Flow Vinyasa with Michelle Nayeli
Developed by Shiva Rea, this practice honors the inherent movement of nature~ Pulsation, in/out, ebb/flow, expand/contract~ that, when embodied with awareness, opens the physical body, calms the mind, and connects us to our heart's presence.
About the Gamelatron
The Gamelatron served as sonic soul for Black Rock City's Temple of Transition in 2011 (http://gamelatron.com/archive_temple.php). Thanks to TechShop, the efforts of creative director Aaron Taylor Kuffner and growing worldwide support, there are now five orchestras circulating the globe.
The other sonic soundings on July 28: A fantastical garden party in New Orlean's 9th Ward as part of the Music Box installation, an urban sanctuary along the East River in Brooklyn, a massive BOOM festival installation in the desert of Portugal, and, in Tokyo, featured at Fuji Rock. This is a milestone day that we hope becomes a normal day as these ancient sounds serve communities around the globe.
The essence of the Gamelatron is in the live experience: Robotically-controlled mallets play original compositions on handcrafted, masterfully-tuned orchestras of vibraphones, drums, chimes, bells and resonating bronze gongs. Audiences are immersed in living kinetic sculptures.
Whether compositions are created live or pre-programmed, the instruments are always live, tuned, as they have been for centuries, to uniquely impact the human body.
The Gamelatron is the fruit of the Collaboration betwen the League of Musical Urban Robots (LEMUR) and the composer Aaron Taylor Kuffner. The original orchestra debuted in 2008. Its various incarnations have played concerts, festivals and long-term installations around the world. For more information, visit www.gamelatron.com. Contact: email@example.com
About the Temple of Juno
David Best, who introduced Temples to the Burning Man Festival, returns to steward the creation of The Temple of Juno in 2012. The temple grounds will incorporate a large central temple building sitting within a 150'x150' walled courtyard. The courtyard is accessible by four entrances, one on each of the temple sides. Benches line the exterior space, and surround the temple. The scale of the central temple building is smaller than the last years of the temples, but this will be the most detailed temple we have built. The central building will have altar space, 3 occupied floors, and a tower. Intricately cut wooden panels and shapes will cover the courtyard walls as well as the interior space and the altars. Juno was a Roman goddess who had many roles and epithets; among those that she held were as a fertility deity and overseer of childbirth, a protectress of women and the community, and a preserver of marriages. http://templecrew.org/juno.html
