Event description

Description

Millions of Americans will see the sight of a lifetime on August 21, 2017, when a rare total solar eclipse sweeps the nation from Oregon to South Carolina. Day turns to night for two minutes and the sky's most beautiful spectacle, the Sun's corona, reveals itself in grandeur. Gallatin, Tennessee, is right on that path for the longest duration of totality - approximately 2 minutes 40 seconds. Come join us to witness the eclipse from the BEST viewing spot: Gallatin, Tennessee!

Bringing a tour bus to the event? Tour buses MUST register in advance with the Sumner County Convention & Visitors Bureau ahead of time to ensure parking. Those buses without prior registration will not be admitted into the park. Please call 888-301-7886 or email info@visitsumnertn.com to make arrangements for your tour bus.

Gallatin TN Eclipse Encounter FAQs

What happens when I RSVP on Eventbrite?

An RSVP helps us plan a great event for our guests! This total solar eclipse is an unprecedented event so there are no statistics to help us determine how many people are planning to be at our event. We thank you for your RSVP and look forward to seeing you at the Gallatin TN Eclipse Encounter Event!

What is traffic going to be like in Middle Tennessee on Monday, August 21?

An event of this magnitude in Middle Tennessee has no previous examples of numbers for us to say definitively, but the Tennessee Department of Transportation estimates that an additional 500,000-1.4 million drivers will be utilizing Middle Tennessee roadways the day of the event. Plan accordingly and expect delays on roadways.

Where do I park at?

There is limited parking available at Triple Creek Park, where the Gallatin TN Eclipse Encounter is held. Once the park's lot is filled, no vehicles will be allowed to park inside Triple Creek Park as enforced by local police units. Satellite parking locations will be available and shuttles with transport people to and from Triple Creek Park. The satellite parking map will be released closer to the event. Ride sharing is greatly encouraged when possible.

TOUR BUSES ARE REQUIRED TO REGISTER IN ADVANCE OR THEY WILL NOT BE PERMITTED INTO THE PARK. Tour operators need to call 888-301-7886 or email info@visitsumnertn.com to register tour buses.

Where do I get safety glasses to watch the eclipse?

The Gallatin TN Eclipse Encounter will hand out safety glasses to guests at the event. Glasses will not be given out in advance. Glasses are limited to one pair per person while supplies last. Glasses MUST be worn while looking directly at the sun. Read about why it's important to protect your eyes on NASA's website.

Should I bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on during the event?

Viewing will primarily be on soccer fields, so bring your own lawn chairs and blankets if you plan to sit in the viewing areas. A select number of tents will be available for those who need to temporarily cool off and shade trees surround the park for those who wish to set up chairs away from the sun. There will be limited chairs and bleachers for use as well, and those will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can I bring in my own drinks/food?

Food vendors will be on-site providing various foods and beverages that are available for purchase. Guests to the event are permitted to bring in water and food items to the event. That said, NO ALCOHOL and NO GRILLS or cooking instruments are permitted in the park. Violation of this rule will lead to removal from the event.
