Event description
The mission of this conference is to bring grassroot organizers together to understand the pathway forward towards a #policefreeworld

About this Event

Summer 2020 is a time people must refuse to forget. The neoliberal imperative is to undergo collective historical amnesia to become reactionary to another incident of gratuitous violence against the Black body. "Analysis Pending Revolution" is a survey of practices in the movement to abolish the police. Is it a movement? Is it grounded in site-specific intervention? Is it more liberal co-optation? This conference brings together leading grassroots organizers to discuss the answers to these questions. Presenters from organizations will share lessons we have learned and facilitate the group. We dig into questions like: How do we create our essential safety services to help our communities and decision-makers imagine a world without police? What do we do when those in power betray our movements or represent the communities we come from and don't deliver on their promises? How can a grassroots narrative-based strategy provide change at the level of budgets and policies? After this conference, participants will be able to:

Explain the historical connection between state repression and policing.

Guide questions and answers in discussions that make tangible the vision of community control of the police.

Envision campaign designs that change the narrative from one of police reform to one of social equity.

We have opening statements from Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Weber, who has been giving us directives with the passage of historical legislation AB392 after Stephon Clark's assassination. This conference is intended to give activists the tools to demand local, national, and global change.
