The Futures of Vibrant Communities: an immersive installation

The Carnegie Mellon Futurist Club and Pittsburgh nonprofit New Sun Rising have worked together for the past 3 months to create an experiential futures event that explores the topic of vibrant communities: What does it mean to mutually flourish and create equitable success? As a result of research and discussions, we are happy to invite you to this immersive installation where you won’t just be seeing things “about” the future, but rather you will experience what it could be like to live “in” the future

This event has two parts. First, you will enter the future experience by going to a hidden community gathering; grab a drink, take a look around, chat with someone new!

Then, you'll exit the future and return to the present day to reflect on the big questions surrounding the experience with some guided activities. Your feedback will be shared with New Sun Rising to inform their research about how to achieve vibrant communities. Throughout the night, we encourage a lot of interaction amongst the attendees to spark inspiration! Attendees should plan to visit the immersive installation for a minimum of 45 minutes and can arrive any time during event hours.

The future is vague and ambiguous, making it feel impossible to think about in a strategic way. We want everyone to leave this experience feeling confident to think about, discuss, and share their desired futures. We want you to feel empowered and excited to approach it, because you belong in your own visions of the future.
