On January 9th, Scripted.com and Crosslink Capital will be hosting a panel featuring some of the top authorities on Internet marketplaces. Internet marketplaces are gaining a lot of traction - both as a way to hire talent, and as a way to broker transactions. The discussion will focus on current industry trends and data, and predictions on future growth. The panelists are:

Gary is the CEO of oDesk is the world’s largest online workplace, enabling businesses to instantly hire, manage and pay a flexible online workforce. He has a passion for helping small businesses succeed with more than 18 years of experience in the enterprise software market. Before oDesk, as the VP of Worldwide Sales for Intellibank, he was responsible for building the sales organization, but Gary's enthusiasm for small businesses was born during his tenure as a Business Unit Executive for IBM's Rational Software Product Group, where he led Small and Medium Business sales for the Americas. Gary came to Rational through its merger with Pure Software, where he held sales, management and leadership positions.
Gary holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland.
Dr. DJ Patil is a Data Science in Residence at Greylock Partners.
He has held a variety of roles in Academia, Industry, and Government. These include, the Chief Scientist, Chief Security Officer and Head of Analytics and Data Teams at the LinkedIn Corporation. Additionally he has held a number of roles at Skype, PayPal, and eBay. He is known for co-coining the term Data Scientist. In 2011 he was ranked in Forbes Data Scientist list as #2 behind Larry Page.
As a member of the faculty at the University of Maryland, his research focused on nonlinear dynamcis and chaos theory and he helped start a major research initiative on numerical weather prediction. As an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow for the Department of Defense, Dr. Patil directed new efforts to leverage social network analysis and the melding of computational and social sciences to anticipate emerging threats to the US. He has also co-chaired a major review of US efforts to prevent bioweapons proliferation in Central Asia and co-founded the Iraqi Virtual Science Library (IVSL).

Before Getaround, Sam founded Apption, an enterprise software consultancy, and Gazaro, a retail price intelligence platform. Sam is an E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year, a Microsoft Code Award winner and a Google Scholarship recipient. He studied Engineering Physics at Queen's University and is a graduate of the Singularity University Graduate Studies Program.
Sunil Rajaraman is the founder and CEO of Scripted.com, a marketplace for businesses to hire freelance writers. Scripted.com has a pool of 80,000 freelance writers, and ranks as one of the top five largest writer communities on the Internet. Sunil was the 2008 recipient of the Young President's Organization Scholarship at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Sunil holds a BA in Economics from Claremont McKenna College.
