Description

Join StartOut's LGBTQ entrepreneurs at Microsoft New York to discuss Virtual Reality and the offshoots that are driving innovation at the frontier of human interactions - Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality. As Entrepreneurs & business owners, you should be looking into how VR can not only grow the future of your business, but also how it can allow you to engage in unique and innovative ways.

*** There are limited tickets available - Please reserve your tickets now or before February 24th ***

Virtual Reality has been at the cornerstone of science fiction for as long as most of us can remember - beautifully portrayed in movies, TV series and books like “Ready Player One.” Yet in 2017 despite the availability of a few commercial applications, we are still missing the magical products and content that will catapult this category into the imaginations of the next generation of students, gamers, consumers and workers. It feels like something big is coming. This panel and showcase will discuss how VR and its related and potentially more powerful technologies: Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality, collectively known as Creative Reality are at the forefront of human interaction. We will discuss what that means for startups, entrepreneurs, investors and all the people who make up the LGBTQA startup economy.

Our discussion will bring together practitioners in the fields of VR, AR and MR:

Sophia Dominguez is CEO and co-founder of SVRF, the first search and discovery engine for VR content. She also founded AllThingsVR, a weekly newsletter highlighting the best virtual reality news and content. Previously she was the Entrepreneur in Residence at Rothenburg Ventures and was the first person to travel the world with Google Glass and document how people reacted to seeing and experiencing it for the first time. Sophia graduated from NYU Gallatin in 2013 with an individualized B.S. degree in “How technology impacts Human Interaction.”

Jarrard Cole is an Emmy-nominated Executive Producer at The Wall Street Journal, working on video innovation, virtual reality, and special projects for the newsroom. He has reported stories from Lebanon to Tokyo and from the cornfields of Iowa to The White house. Jarrard launched and produced WSJ’s first ever 360 video, helped developed the paper’s virtual reality applications, and has guided the paper’s coverage in VR. Jarrard spends most of his time rebooting headsets and stressing about his Instagram feed.

D.J. Smith is the Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer at The Glimpse Group. The Glimpse Group is a holding company for a portfolio of startups focused on the virtual and augmented reality industries. At Glimpse, D.J.’s responsibilities include overseeing the production of all VR and AR content as well leading the effort to locate new subsidiary companies. In addition, D.J. is co-organizer of The New York Virtual Reality Meetup (NYVR) which is currently the 2nd largest VR meetup in the world with 4500 members.
