Event description

Description

Join host Tavis Smiley in a Town Hall discussion inspiring communities to help reshape college so it prepares every student for success in school, career and life. This is an OPEN CALL to rethink and design American colleges to work at its best.

The event is FREE and open to the public.

Join the conversation. Have your voice heard. Be a part of the change.

People of color, particularly those coming from low income families, are less prepared for college and are less likely to graduate. In fact only four in 10 Black and Latino students graduate from college. The societal implications of this are enormous in terms of limited job opportunities and unequal wages which makes "success" difficult to achieve. We'll discuss programs that are working and talk about what more can be done to increase educational opportunity for ALL.

Panelists include: Dr. Jane Close Conoley, President, California State University Long Beach; Eloy Ortiz Oakley, Chancellor, California Community Colleges; Christopher J. Steinhauser, Superintendent, Long Beach Unified School District and more!
