Event description

Description

The Gloria Faye Dingus Music Alliance is pleased to welcome the Furnace Mountain Band to Gloria's Listening Room. Though often overshadowed by Southwest Virginia and its famed Crooked Road, the Shenandoah Valley and Virginia’s northwestern counties have always been fertile ground for traditional music, and they continue to be home to many of its finest practitioners. The region is situated between the Appalachian hills of West Virginia and the culturally diverse and ever-changing Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and is known for producing musicians who transcend generic categories, deftly taking traditional music styles in new directions. Furnace Mountain, named for a mountain near where all the members grew up, consists of some of the most innovative and gifted musicians in Virginia. Musicians Morgan Morrison on bouzouki and vocals, Aimee Curl on bass and vocals and David Van Deventer on fiddle and vocals make up the three-piece group Furnace Mountain. As the host band of the Watermelon Park Fest, the band has been a staple of music in the region for nearly two decades. Tickets are $20 and seating is limited so advance purchase is highly recommended. Children 12 and under admitted free with parent or guardian. Proceeds will go to The Gloria Faye Dingus Music Alliance, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing music education and instruments for all those wishing to learn and enjoy music.
