Description

Erica Armstrong Dunbar, Ph.D., is committed to telling the stories of black women who have lived, loved, struggled, worked, prayed and fought to survive in a nation that recognized them only as property. With impeccable research, she explores the powerful tale of Ona Judge, George Washington’s runaway slave, offering fascinating new scholarship on how one young woman risked it all to reach freedom from the most powerful family in the country. Dunbar is the Charles & Mary Beard Professor of History at Rutgers University and author of Never Caught: The Washingtons’ Relentless Pursuit of Their Runaway Slave, Ona Judge.
