The Forever Chemicals Screening
Date and time
Location
Michigan State University Communication Arts and Sciences Building
404 Wilson Road
East Lansing, MI 48823
Description
Join Detroit Public TV and WKAR for a screening of a documentary on an issue very much in the news: PFAS contamination, “The Forever Chemicals.”
The film takes a close look at PFAS, a curious acronym that stands for a family of chemicals that’s in most homes and being detected in an increasing number of people’s water systems in Michigan and other states and provinces.
Research is only beginning to determine the health effects and what, if any, treatment there might be. What can people do to protect themselves and their families? And at what cost?
After the film, a panel of experts will look at the health, environmental and political issues surround PFAS contamination. They will include:
- Sandra Svoboda, Moderator – Program director of Great Lakes Now, producer of “The Forever Chemicals”
- Sandy Wynn-Stelt - affected resident in Belmont, MI
- Liesl Clark - Director of Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy
- Rep. Sue Allor (R-Wolverine), chair of the Natural Resources and Environmental Quality Subcommittee
- Dr. Courtney Carignan – Asst. Professor, Michigan State University, environmental exposure scientist and epidemiologist
- Paula Gardner - MLive, environmental news and policy reporter
The screening will take place in the East Lansing studios of WKAR on Thursday, Oct.24, at 7 p.m.
Light refreshments will be served.
