Description

Farming is a public service that is vital to our communities, but it has always been a precarious business with countless risks, environmental unknowns, and razor-thin profits. For most farmers, challenges include access to affordable land, capital, and markets. But what if you are an under-resourced first-time farmer? How can we address structural barriers for women, people of color, immigrants, and others who are stewarding the land while bringing good food to our tables?

Eaters must be part of the solution to grow the next generation of California farmers. Join CUESA and California FarmLink for a conversation with farmers whose hands are in the soil and whose eyes are on the future. Learn from their first-hand experience overcoming these challenges and find out how we can focus our collective energies to create opportunities for beginning farmers. Know and support your local farmer for an inclusive and regenerative food future for all!

This talk is part of a series diving into the themes of The Food Change, a multifaceted educational project from CUESA. It is presented in partnership with California FarmLink.

Speakers:

  • Javier Zamora, farmer, JSM Organics
  • Ge Moua, farmer, Moua’s Farm
  • Marsha Habib, farmer, Oya Organics
  • Chanowk Yisrael, farmer, Yisrael Family Urban Farm (moderator)

Location: Port Commission Hearing Room, Ferry Building, San Francisco

Reception featuring refreshments from CUESA’s Ferry Plaza Farmers Market (included with admission) to follow.

No one will be turned away from the panel for lack of funds. Please contact ave@cuesa.org for scholarship information.

Tickets are nonrefundable but may be transferable by contacting us.
