What is The Flatiron School?

The Flatiron School trains highly motivated individuals in web application development. We teach best practices in Ruby, Rails, JavaScript, Object-Oriented DesignGit, SQL, Test-Driven Development and more (check out our curriculum). Our learning environment includes pair programming, project based discovery, and a relentless focus on teamwork. At the completion of the 12 week program, students will have spent at least 500 hours in a hands-on, intensive learning environment, coding solutions to real problems and working on real projects.

Science Fair:

Towards the end of the program, The Flatiron School is hosting a Science Fair. Select employers are invited to come to the school and see what the students have been working on over the course of the semester. This will be a great chance to get to know the students, and get a detailed look at what they've accomplished (including demos of apps they've built, etc...).
In exchange for direct access to this event, The Flatiron School expects that employers interested in hiring our students pay a hiring commission equivalent to 20% of the student's first year's salary (placement fee terms & conditions.  We've decided to structure our program in this way for two reasons-
  1. Charging employers a placement fee allows us to keep tuition as low as possible, so that we can attract the best possible talent to our program.
  2. Education today is too expensive and not focused on real results. By basing our revenue model on job placement, we are aligning our interests with those of our students. Simply put, if we're not successful in training them for jobs, we shouldn't be financially successful either.
*Each attendee will be given a student profile package in advance with students' bios, pictures, github profiles, resumes, etc...

Who are the students?

Each of the 20 students at The Flatiron School was individually selected out of a pool of hundreds of applicants. Students were selected based on 3 key factors-
  1. Aptitude
  2. Cultural Fit
  3. Demonstrated passion for a career in web development.
Students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. This semester's class ranges from lawyers and bankers to professional poker players and baseball scouts (we even have some software developers and college students in the mix)The Flatiron School selects top notchdedicated, proven learners who have the requisite skills to make immediate contributions as junior-level developers.

Who are the staff?

Our primary instructor, Avi Flombaum, has taught over 400 students at Skillshare and General Assembly, and created The Flatiron School as a dedicated program for those who are exclusively focused on advancing their careers as web developers.
