Description

Who should attend?

It is a requirement of health & safety law that employers should ensure the health, safety and welfare of their employees and the public. Employers must also provide adequate personnel, training and equipment to render first aid to their employees. This qualification covers the Three day Emergency First Aid at Work Level Three course. All successful students will be issued with a new Emergency First Aid at Work Level Three certificate which lasts for a period of 3 years, along with a wallet sized plastic card detailing their qualifications.

Course content:

  • Aims and principles of first aid.
  • Prevention of cross-infection during first aid procedures.
  • Basic life support (CPR).
  • Management of the unconscious casualty.
  • Assessment and treatment of a casualty who is wounded, bleeding or shocked.
  • How to deal with burns, poisoning and eye injuries.
  • Assessment and treatment of common major and minor illnesses, including fractures, dislocation, head injuries, epilepsy and diabetes.
  • Managing asthma attacks and choking.
  • Legal aspects of first aid at work – record keeping and use of equipment.

Entry requirements:
No previous experience or qualifications are necessary. You must be able to kneel & bend down throughout the course to perform first aid techniques and for the final practical assessments.

It is recommended that learners have a minimum of level one in literacy and numeracy or its equivalent.

How the qualification is assessed:

1. Practical observation
The practical assessment of learners for the qualification is completed throughout the course delivery. This ongoing assessment will involve learners demonstrating practical first aid skills across a number of areas.

2. Written/oral questioning
Learners are required to answer a series of questions ensuring their understanding of the theory content is sufficient to meet the required standard. Oral questioning can be used to extract further information for these questions during the practical assessments, with the tutor documenting the responses, or when needing to supplement learners’ written responses according to individual learners’ needs.

3. Accident report form
Learners are required to show evidence that they are able to complete an accident report form. The recording of assessment will be via the HABC Accident Report Form.

Completion certificate:
On successful completion of the course, the delegate will receive an Emergency First Aid at Work Level Three certificate. This is valid for three years. Continuous support for qualified learners, including information about changes in first aid techniques and refresher courses is available.
