Description

Who should attend?
The Fire Safety Awareness Level Two course is designed for anyone involved in the management of fire safety in any workplace. This includes managers, supervisors, team leaders, fire wardens (marshals) and staff working in any area where there is a potential risk of fire. You will gain the knowledge of whom is responsible for fire safety in the workplace as well recognising the consequences of a fire in any premises.

Course content:

  • An understanding of the hazards and risks associated with fire in the workplace.
  • An understanding of fire safety and what to do in the event of an emergency.
  • An understanding on how fire risk can be controlled in the workplace.
  • Describe the principles of how fires are extinguished and how equipment should be used safely.
  • What the hazards are during or after a fire including products of combustion.
  • A description of the characteristics of fire and how it spreads.
  • The main costs of fires in the workplace for employers, employees and society.
  • Your duties and responsibilities in relation to fire safety in the workplace.
  • The role and responsibilities of fire wardens and other people who may be required to take action in an emergency.
  • The main causes of fires in the workplace.
  • The principles of fire risk control.
  • The key elements for effective fire risk management in the workplace.
  • How the components of the fire triangle can be used to control fire risks.
  • The difference between active and passive fire risk control measures.
  • The basics of practical fire safety.
  • The safe operating parameters for the use of portable fire-fighting equipment.
  • An outline of simple checks to ensure fire safety equipment is serviceable and safe to use.
  • An understanding of the principles and practices of fire safety management at work.
  • An understanding of the role of a nominated fire warden (marshall).

Entry requirements:
No previous experience or qualifications are necessary. It is recommended that learners have a minimum of level one in literacy or numeracy or its equivalent.

How the qualification is assessed:
The course is run over one day. This qualification is assessed through a 30 question, multiple choice examination. The duration of the examination is 60 minutes and to successfully pass you must achieve a score of at least 20 out of 30.

Completion certificate:
On successful completion of the course, the delegate will receive a Fire Safety Awareness Level Two Award Certificate. This is valid for three years. Continuous support for qualified learners, including information about changes in first aid techniques and refresher courses is available.
