Join us for the FIRST EVER EFT Externship in New Mexico, to be held in Santa Fe on the beautiful campus of St. John's College!

Transform the way you work with Couples and earn 28 ceu’s at this 4 day intensive training! The Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Externship, developed by Dr. Susan Johnson, is an immersion into the science and power of attachment, emotion and relatedness that can shift the way you understand couples in distress; and change the way you work with families and individuals. This is an experiential and didactic training that will help your success in your clinical practice as well as strengthen relationships in your own life!
This is an official EFT Externship, endorsed by the Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). 
March 18, 2020 from 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
March 19, 2020, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
March 20, 2020, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
March 21, 2020, 9:00 am - 3:30 pm 
*Registration begins at 8:30 am each day with coffee, tea and light snacls.

CE Credit

Earn While You Learn – attendance at this Externship can earn you 28 CE credits. The training virtually fulfills the biennial continuing education requirement for license renewal for social workers, licensed counselors, psychologists and marriage and family therapists. ($30 add-on fee to receive CE credit.)



By attending, participants will:


  • Obtain a clear understanding of the basic experiential and systemic concepts of an “Emotionally Focused” approach to couples therapy.
  • Develop skills in helping partners reprocess the emotional responses that maintain relational distress.
  • Develop skills in helping partners shape new interaction patterns and bonding events.
  • Develop skills to overcome therapeutic impasses with couples.
  • General Registration Before 11/18/2019: $700

Who can attend: The externship is recommended for mental health professionals, students and clergy that counsel couples including psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, marriage and family therapists, and mental health interns.


Refund requests will be honored up to 30 days. All refund requests will be subject to a $100 processing fee. No refunds within the 30-day cancellation, but transfer of funds to the following externship year or core skills registration will be considered on a case-by-case basis.


Lisa J. Palmer, Psy.D. is a licensed marriage and family therapist in San Diego California. She is a Certified EFT Trainer and Supervisor and is a Founder and one of the Directors of the Emotionally Focused Couples Training and Research Institute at Alliant International University. Lisa completed her dissertation research on how to train and teach Emotionally Focused Couples therapy to professionals. Dr. Sue Johnson, the founder of EFT and Dr. Scott Woolley were part of her dissertation committee. Dr. Palmer-Olsen’s primary clinical and research interests are in the areas of couple and family therapy; specifically with those couples and families dealing with trauma and attachment related struggles. She is an AAMFT clinical member and approved AAMFT supervisor. Dr. Palmer-Olsen is also co-founder and clinic director for the Alliant Couple and Family Clinic (ACFC), San Diego-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit therapy clinic. To learn more, visit: 

Dr. Robert Allan has more than two decades of experience helping couples, individuals, and families improve their most important relationships, health, and well-being. He has been practicing psychotherapy since 2004 in a variety of settings including community mental health, hospitals, employee assistance programs, and private practice, and is an Assistant Professor of Counseling at the University of Colorado Denver. In his private practice, he works with individuals, couples, and families dealing with issues such as anxiety, depression, infidelity, adjustment to life transitions, trauma, addictions, and couples struggling in their relationship as well as others.

To participate, you must have the training and educational qualifications to legally practice as a professional mental health practitioner in the area I live OR be currently enrolled in formal training to be a professional mental health practitioner.***

***Participants must be familiar with and abide by professional and legal confidentiality requirements regarding all client information shared in the training. Certification in EFT is offered by ICEEFT based on completion of all requirements and demonstrated competence in the model. Completion of training does not guarantee competence or certification. Enrollment in this training constitutes an agreement to hold harmless The San Diego Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Training and Research Institute for Emotionally Focused Therapy (TRI-EFT), and all presenters and trainers from any and all claims, actions, and judgements, including all costs of defense and attorney’s fees incurred in defending against the same. I have read and agree to follow the terms for participation.

Confidentiality: You must agree to keep confidential the personal identifying information of case material shared in the training. I agree to not record any part of this training in any format (audio, video, or visual). Personal written notes of non-confidential material are permitted.

Who We Are: A community Network for Emotionally Focused Therapists in New Mexico
an approved affiliate of the International Center for Excellence in EFT (ICEEFT).
