The Filson Trail: Into the Heartland
Friday, June 14, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (EDT)
Have you ever wanted to explore the heartland of Kentucky? We will be taking a bus from the Filson for a day trip visiting a craft distillery, boutique winery, horse farm and military museum. The Tour will last from 9 a.m.-5:15 p.m. and includes a lunch. Keep in mind that there are shops at each one of our stops.
Our first stop will be at 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Distillery in Bardstown. Here we will have a tour and a tasting. The 192-acre distillery is home to beautiful wildlife and many historic buildings, including a still house and 28 aging warehouses.
Next we will venture to the Horseshoe Bend Vineyard and Winery in Willsburg. On this stop we will enjoy a tour of the vineyard, a wine tasting and lunch. They produce various kinds of wine sure to appease each pallet. These wines travel the entire country attending many festivals and represent the wine culture of Kentucky.
Afterward we will head for a tour of Old Friends in Georgetown, KY. Old Friends is a non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center. They care for more than 130 horses, most of them stallions whose racing and breeding careers are finished.
We will finish the day at the Kentucky Military History Museum in Frankfort. The newly renovated museum will house the exhibition, "Kentucky Military Treasures: Selections from the Kentucky Historical Society Collections," which now includes a recently-restored piece of the Fighting Falcon (the first American glider to land at Normandy on D-Day) and Gen. William O. Butler’s presentation sword from the Mexican War.
$50 for members and $60 for nonmembers.
Reservations are required. Go to www.filsonhistorical.org or call (502) 635-5083 for more information.
