The Filson Bourbon Challenge
Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM
The Filson Bourbon Challenge is a blind tasting event where participants will sample five bourbons in unknown order. The list of bourbons will be provided the day of the event and each participant be asked to identify the order. Pappy Van Winkle and Stitzel-Weller Distillery were famous for the plaque at the entrance of the distillery that stated, “We make fine bourbon – at a profit if we can, at a loss if we must – But always fine bourbon.” It is with this in mind that we offer a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon, donated by Julian Van Winkle, a product that is extremely rare and impossible to find, to the winner of the Challenge. In the event of a tie, a ‘showdown’ tasting will be held, where the finalists will taste an unknown bourbon and will be judged by Joy Perrine, Julian Van Winkle, and his son Preston.
The Filson Bourbon Challenge is limited to 30 participants. Mike Veach, The Filson’s Bourbon Historian, will lead the contest.
