Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Forget what you know about Limb Snapping: we've spent half a decade perfecting the art of glorious DIY celebrations so that we can prepare ourselves for this one. You bet it's that time for everyone's absolute favorite festival of the year.

For the first time ever, we're filling the weekend from beginning to end with bands, tree houses, late night DJ sets, art pieces, zip lines, nature, and communal projects. We'll have music Friday night and ALL DAY Saturday. Top to bottom with some of your favorite jams and a bunch of new ones to sink your teeth into. Join us to celebrate half a decade of Growth and Friendship.

It's the festival that reminds you of what it means to be human. This is our Fifth Annual Limb Snapping and we can't wait to share it together with you all.

Jake McKelvie and the Countertops (MA)
A staple of Limb Snapping, JMCTops consistently win hearts over through tightly woven lyrics that squeeze the juice out of rock and roll.

Say Brother (Columbia, SC)
Back by popular demand, t
hese dudes bring a southern spirit and aren't afraid to shine with a swampy swagger.

OxenFree (Brooklyn, NY)
“OxenFree’s music, which juxtaposes poppy melodies and precise, hefty guitar work, seemed to mirror the subject matters at hand.” — Consequences of Sound

Dust Hat (New Haven, CT)
Dust Hat is specifically and unrepentantly made to party. You're invited.

The Golden Hour Piedmont Bluegrass Pals (Brooklyn, NY)
How could you have a festival in the woods without bluegrass? This trio have made mandolins sing across the mountains and valleys of Colorado, the Carolinas, and Brooklyn.

Brett Timothy (Hudson, NY)
Singer/songwriter/soul brother from Hudson. A former farmhand and son of a preacher.

All tickets include a weekend of music, meals prepared by some amazing chefs from Friday night until Sunday morning, and infinite kegs. A portion of all ticket sales and donations will go to support a local community organization in the Mohawk Valley!

Early Bird - $65.00 (Available to all until May 1st. Get 'em now and save later!)

Full price - $75.00

Note: We run this event AT COST. If you'd like to support the Root, Limb Snapping, or our many projects, please feel free to include a contribution! We are not a corporate event and want to stay that way -- thank you for buying your ticket early!

"This is the best party that has ever happened." - Liz P.

"The Root is always a welcoming environment with great people and good food. Limb Snapping is that multiplied by literally a billion." - Jay W.

"Good food, great music, awesome community. I was there last year and I can't wait to go again. Plenty of kegs for everyone :)" - Chris Y.

"This place is real and it is rapidly making a name for itself. More than a festival, it’s like a pilgrimage. It’s called The Root and the organizers who gave birth to it host an annual event called Limb Snapping. Each year, the organizers bear the costs of hosting what some attendees have called the 'party of the year.'" - Liz R.

What is the Root?
10.1 acres of New York’s Mohawk Valley have transformed into an arena of creativity. The Root Community is an inclusive mish-mash of friends from all backgrounds who design and build tree houses, restore and create native habitat, ride zip-lines, build libraries, and enjoy camp fires. We build cool stuff, but that’s just the beginning.

What should I bring to Limb Snapping?
We've got meadows, woods, and creeks with your name on it. This is a camping event so please bring a tent, sneakers/hiking boots, a headlamp, swim suit, and drinking water (we do not supply water, we recommend 1gal of water per person/day). Make sure you remember layers and a rain jacket! This event is rain or shine.

What does "Limb Snapping" mean?
Similar to breaking champagne on a newly launched boat, this is our tradition of snapping a tree limb over a long-term project that we're proud of. We'll have a brief ceremony on Saturday and everyone will have a chance to help snap the limb!

Is there a minimum age requirement?
This event is 21+ only.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

  • Driving:
This is the easiest way of getting up and we encourage people to carpool! We will have roadside parking available. CLICK HERE to join the carpooling spreadsheet -- if you have a free spot in your car, we guarantee you'll meet a cool person!
  • Megabus:
You can take a bus to the Albany/Renselear station. Pick-up times TBD.
  • Train:
Amtrak Northeast has a station in Amsterdam, NY. Pick-up times TBD.

Have a question, suggestion, or want to share your excitement? We'd love to hear from you!
Please email rootcommunity@gmail.com.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Nope! Just bring your sexy selves and we'll have a welcome table to check you in.

I have a food allergy/preference, who should I tell?
We would love to know about any and all food allergies! We will have a lot of food throughout weekend and will try to be as accommodating as possible. Please let us know by emailing us at rootcommunity@gmail.com and we will do our best!

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

What's the refund policy?
We can extend refunds to people until July 31st. After that time we will have made financial commitments that we will need to honor.

Can I buy tickets at the door?
Yes, you can buy tickets for $85 at the door through venmo or cash. However, as we are a DIY event, we rely on pre-purchased tickets in order to front the cost of the event based on known ticket sales. Thank you for opting in to help! If this may apply to you, please email rootcommunity@gmail.com to give us a heads up.

Can I come up to The Root before Limb Snapping?
Please do! We'll be up every weekend this summer. Just shoot us an email at rootcommunity@gmail.com we would love to have you!
