Is The Fear in you?
We're calling all bold and brave homebrewing soldiers who want to try their hand at brewing The Fear Imperial Pumpkin Ale for our last Stove Topper competition of the year.
The Flying Dog Stove Toppers are all-grain homebrew kits for advanced home brewers. These recipes and ingredients are straight from our brewhouse and scaled-down to fit your home brewery.
Here’s how the competition works:
- 15 kits will available for competition only; no additional kits will be for sale.
- Each kit costs $60 and includes the yeast, hops, malt, and proprietary spice blend. Each brewer must obtain their own pumpkin.
- To maintain an even playing field, all kits will be assembled and available for pick-up at on Saturday, August 29 from 9 to 11 am at Flying Dog Brewery.
- Brewers will then have six weeks to produce the beer.
On Thursday, October 15 at 6 pm, entrants will bring three bottles (or one growler if beer was kegged) of their entry beer to Metropolitan in Baltimore, Maryland. A panel of Flying Dog brewers and quality analysts will review and rate each entry based on the quality and likeness to Flying Dog’s original Fear.
At the conclusion of the event, each competitor will receive a copy of his or her BJCP score sheet and the judges will be available to answer questions and give additional feedback.
Once all the submissions have been rated and ranked, the top three finishers will be announced and the grand prize winner will take home an once-in-a-lifetime Flying Dog homebrewer experience. The day will include a private guided tour and opportunity to fill a custom firkin. Then, the winner and 9 of their friends will be invited back to the brewery when their firkin is scheduled to release in our tasting room.
Three Chances to Enter, Brew, and Win
Earlier this year, we held clone competitions for our Raging Bitch Belgian-Style IPA and Bloodline Blood Orange Ale. Once this competition has commenced, all three winners will be invited back to the brewery for a brew day on our 15-barrel pilot system.
