The story begins long before the project had a focus or a name. The original concept was to investigate the best use of the multiplatform model to design a communications enterprise. With so many years of experience in the field, I thought that the creation and presentation would be simple.
With the introduction of the Digital Television technology, there seemed to finally be a system that could support all types of production and distribution for a single subject, but with many angles in the delivery to the waiting audience. Beyond the research, the planning and the initial trials, there were years (or decades) to find the right combination for a true multiplatform media success.
Years were spent establishing Digital Television as the true anchor for this venture. Next came the deep dive into Digital Storytelling to build knowledge of creating programming that could take full advantage of the communications technology in production, delivery and promotion.
We decided early on that we would give big attention to the affluent consumer. Many related resources and relationships have been gathered over the years. Now we can sort, refer to, and initiate best practices through an ongoing review. This is the real start of our appreciation of Kai Zen – or Continuous Improvement.
The grand announcement regarding fashion as our focus was made in June 2013. In writing our story, and explaining the options to fellow writers, I have settled on this occasion as the start point for our story.
The first outline for A Guide For Continuous Improvement, and even the first draft of the narrative were straight from the heart. To get into greater detail, there has been input from associates, materials from meetings and conferences and less-than-flattering notes from competitors in the worlds of couture, media and technology.
The latest structure has the story divided into twenty-one sections. The profile now has greater depth with descriptions for each section, referrals to outside sources and trade media clippings (lots of clippings) to point out changes that support our method and ambition.
After thirty years of data collection, editing reports, stories and articles is a profound joy. Combing through the boxes, electronic files and memories is now an extension of traditional research and a great way to organize as well as replenish the archives!
The Fashion Media project has outgrown the assigned facilities three times. To be fair to all the collected information and the more than five hundred sources identified therein, a facilities evaluation process has begun. This will be a primary element as we chat up potential strategic partners and sponsors.
A significant part of this UPDATE meeting will be an open discussion about the 2019 launch of our story. We are determined that it will be like no other! Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 12, 2019. We expect to be in St. Petersburg, Florida as a part of the Story Days in Tampa Bay – Storytelling Festival.
Imagine being surrounded by creative festival goers, representatives from our group and other excited storytellers.
Our presentation will be a massive staged reading. 21 Sections becomes 21 personalities and 21 voices.
Our set, dramatic style and digital support will make the event worth the visit.
After the launch, my concentration will be to develop extensions from the story. First in line is a manuscript for consideration for a full book. Photography will be used to illustrate each of the twenty-one sections. The book is an anthology. Expect stories within stories and allow me to highlight key scenarios in a sometimes-non-linear way. Thanks to our digital publishing design, there could be as many as ten sub-categories linked to each section to embellish the multiplatform excitement.
After the manuscript has been delivered, all attention will turn to the possibility of a documentary film from our A Guide For Continuous Improvement story.
And this is not the last of the extensions…
A month to month timeline will direct the evolution of our total package. It all starts on October 12, 2019.
