Talking Shop: The 'F' Word Conference 2017

We believe, that apart from investment, education and mentorship will give founders the best chance to grow their business. With this in mind, we host an annual conference for startups in the creative and consumer space.

Brought to you by Talking Shop, the event features stories, workshops, activities and panel discussions. Guests hear from some of the leading voices in the tech and innovation industries. With a strong focus on successful start-up businesses and the enterprising individual who has founded them.

Brand Building

Mark has helped some of the world’s largest companies, create and build brands. Specialising in FMCG, Mark has founded a number of multi-million dollar businesses around servicing needs for branding, promotion, marketing execution and fulfilment.

As CEO of Kinetic, Mark has, over the last seven years worked with companies such as Coca-Cola, Beiersdorf, Ferrero, Pfizer, Tip Top and Carlton & United Breweries delivering new brands, designing strategies and marketing campaigns.

Mark is passionate about the start-up sector. He was an early investor in Queensland-based logistics technology company Temando, and established a joint venture with them to provide promotional fulfilment to the Australian FMCG market. The business has since gone on to deliver triple digit growth for the last 3 years, resulting in $10M plus revenue and has been recognised with an AFR Fast100 award.

Mark will ‘focus’ on brand building; What does it mean to be a brand? how to build a brand. Is it more than a logo? Along the way he will introduce you to key elements of branding, such as brand pillars, brand language, brand propositions and more.

Cooking up a Storm

Chelsea Ford is an enterprise growth strategist, facilitator and coach and is passionate about working with Food and Beverage Business to help unlock possibilities. Having worked for corporates such as Nestle and Kellogg’s, Chelsea wants to help small businesses step up and in 2016 established her own startup, Females in Food.

Chelsea will talk about the essential ingredients of ‘Doing business with Big Business in the F&B space’. How to stay focused while spinning plates as you grow your enterprise. How do you decide what’s important and what to de-focus? Chelsea will also share her experience of what corporates look for in a new business. She will also give her thoughts on how disruption is impacting the F&B industry.

Building a Beverage Brand

Tom started SOFI from his Bondi living room in 2014. Tom left his career in finance after a trip to Italy that inspired him to take a leap and work on his crazy idea.

Tom will share his story of how to build a Beverage Brand – the good, the bad and the ugly!

Nikki Yazxhi first started bellaMUMMA.com to share snippets of her life as a beauty insider with her readers. Now, nine years on, bellaMUMMA has evolved into a go-to lifestyle site for women around the globe. Nikki’s expertise comes from her 20+ years in magazines. She started in the fashion department at Harper Bazaar; has been editor of Girlfriend; launched Barbie magazine; and worked with Mia Freedman as her associate editor at Cosmopolitan.

Adam Yazxhi first started MAXCO in 1999 which has become a leading branding and design studio. From his early career in architecture and as an internationally known major recording label A&R Manager, and most recently throughout his last 16 years as the Creative Director of design company MAXCO. In 2016 MAXCO won the IDCA (international Design And Communication) Bronze Award for Best Branding of Museum Of Australia Democracy.

Share in the eye widening journey of Nikki & Adam, partners in life and business, who will focus on how they achieved ‘overnight success’ (LOL). An inspirational story, of mistakes, failures, achievements, hard times and light bulb moments… and why it was all worth it.

Our Founder, Steve Baxter, is a proud Queenslander, who established Transition Level Investments in 2012.

Steve commenced his career in defence. He went on to establish and successfully exit, an Internet startup based in Australia then worked for Google CA as a technical program Manager. Steve founded River City Labs, a co-working space in Brisbane, in 2011 and has been a ‘Shark’ on the Channel 10 series Shark Tank since 2013.

Steve will be sharing his story and adventure with us, there will be much to learn from!
