THE EYRIE VINEYARDS Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs

Instructor: Jason Kallsen

Location and time: Twin Cities Wine Education headquarters

Description of wines to be served: 7 gems, including 5 single vineyard rarities, the never-before-popped in Minnesota Chasselas, and the basic Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.

**

When you have a line up of multiple vineyards from one vintage, all made by the same winemaker with the same general techniques or production formula, you have the opportunity to explore terroir.

Our visit to The Eyrie Vineyards in August 2019 was a pilgrimage of sorts. Here is where it all began (including being in the room where David Lett made the very first Pinot Noirs of Willamette Valley). We had a great meeting with the assistant winemaker and the sales director, planning out ideas for the next Eyrie Celebration, coming in February. We met Jason Lett, David's son, who is in charge of the winery and continues his father's legacy.

And we tasted through one of the best line-ups of Pinot Noir I've ever experienced.

The Eyrie Vineyards owns or controls five key vineyards on the Dundee Hill, stepping up from 200-foot elevation to 1000-foot elevation. Starting at the bottom, the Sister's Vineyard sits at 220 feet, planted in 1989. Next up is The Eyrie Vineyard, then oldest Pinot Noir vineyard in Willamette Valley, at 260 feet. Just up the hill, is the Outcrop Vineyard, at 300 feet. Next is Roland Green, planted in 1988, at 600 feet. To top it all off is the Daphne Vineyard at 850 feet.

Every wine had its own personality. Every wine is different. And in this special class, we will explore them all.

Wines to be served:

Eyrie Chasselas, Eyrie Pinot Noir Willamette, and single vineyard Eyrie Pinot Noirs from the Daphne, Roland Green, Outcrop, Sisters, and the historic Eyrie Vineyard (the "Original Vines").

We hope you can join us for this special evening of wine and learning.
