As a collective, artists and audience will explore the codifying term Blackness that has been used not only to define, shape, and contour the beliefs the world has about Black identifying humans but more importantly the perceptions and introspections Black identifying humans have about themselves.
What is this word, and what connotations have we bestowed upon it that expand, contract, distort, exalt, shrink, inflate our conciousness and awareness of its embodiment.
The Evolution of Blackness is an interdiscplinary collarborative performance amongst creators Ra Nubi, DJ Kryptk, Britt Sankofa, Jon Wesley Moon, and Nag Champa. All performers have been asked to define this term using their select genre of Art in Performance. This body of work encompasses (but is not limited to) Visual Art, Theatre, Dance, Composition, Instrumentation and Audience interraction. Following the performance there will be a conversation amongst the creators/artists and audience members highlighting our individual perspectives on the term "BLACKNESS".
We hope to use community involvement in a way that includes them in these conversations. The artist is here to provide another voice, in another language, But all shall be heard, all shall be SEEN.
