Event description
Learn how a play gets from page to stage from Joseph Reed Hayes, a 20-year veteran of the Orlando theater scene.

About this event

My play, If I had My Way, will be produced June 16-20 in Orlando. It is a work that was conceived when I was in residency at The Atlantic Center for the Arts in 2007. The historical play, about the interaction of a woman working in a Central Florida cattle ranch's kitchen, the family that owns it, and an Italian POW being held in a nearby camp (what is now Kissimmee Airport), is the final chapter of The Hayes Project, a year-long theater series funded by a Specific Cultural Project Grant from Florida Division of Arts & Culture. My seminar will touch on the process of developing the language of a play, how an idea makes its way to the stage, incorporating music into a non-musical, and the very deep rabbit hole of researching the history behind a play set in 1945 Florida ... and discovering things that people no longer remember.

Visit thehayesproject.com for more information and tickets to If I Had My Way, June 16-20, at the Digital Adventure Theater at Orlando Science Center.
