The Everyday Illuminated
Overview
Amelia Key is an interdisciplinary artist known for transforming mundane, disposable materials into sculptural, mark-making devices. Through a process of collecting and recontextualizing, she imbues overlooked objects with a sense of preciousness and explores themes of empathy, fragility, and impermanence. Her site-responsive installations create moments of visual tension and joy, inviting viewers to reconsider the materials that shape contemporary life.
Originally from Dothan, Alabama, Amelia holds an MFA from the University of Oklahoma and a BA from Belhaven University. She has exhibited nationally and completed residencies at ArtWorks Cincinnati and the Aquarium Gallery in New Orleans. She is currently participating in a three-month residency at The Factory on Willow in Manchester, NH. Amelia lives in Jackson, Mississippi, where she was recently awarded a 2025 Visual Arts Fellowship from the Mississippi Arts Commission.
About the Factory on Willow's Artist In Residency Program
The Factory’s AIR program aims to host up to 6 artists from across the world every year. Selected artists are provided stipends for room & board, food, and art supplies so they can spend their time focusing on their creative practice. At the end of each residency each artist hosts an exhibition in the Factory’s event space and invites the community to join as we celebrate their developing bodies of work.
