About this event

Join Attorney Jonathan D. Rubin in this Zoom training focused on the ethics and laws of mental health practice.

3 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, and NYS Licensed Psychologists provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.

This virtual training meets the three-hour ethics requirement for NYS Licensed Psychologists.

Objectives:

1. Participants will understand the difference between and the roles of law and ethics in practice.

2. Participants will review and discuss various issues regarding claims against mental health providers and how best to protect one's practice and one's license.

3. Participants will review and understand current legal issues regarding COVID, telehealth and licensure questions.

4. Participants will gain an understanding of good record keeping practices and the importance of such practices.

Jonathan D. Rubin is Senior Partner at Kaufman Borgeest & Ryan LLP. Mr. Rubin's practice areas include Medical Malpractice Defense, Long Term Care and Nursing Home Defense, Health Care, Products Liability Defense and General Liability Defense Litigation.

Mr. Rubin represents hospitals, nursing homes, physicians and health care professionals in civil litigation matters in state and federal courts through and including trials. Mr. Rubin has given numerous presentations on topics including the litigation of complex medical malpractice matters and a variety of risk management issues for a wide variety of health professionals.

Mr. Rubin also has particular expertise in the defense of mental health providers He has lectured extensively in person and on webinars on varied topics including multiple times at the national ASHRM (American Society for Healthcare Risk Management) conference as well as presenting at conferences for The New York State Bar Association, The New York State Psychological Association Convention, NAATP (National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers) Conference, Crittenden Medical Conference and several other Medical conferences across the country.

Mr. Rubin has also represented physicians and other medical professionals in disciplinary actions before the New York State Department of Health and Department of Education. He has authored several articles related to health care issues and was an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney's office where he prosecuted and tried a broad scope of felony cases, conducted all aspects of jury trials, pre-trial hearings, motions, research, plea bargaining, grand jury presentations, investigations, arraignments, bail applications and preparation of witnesses. He also participated and directed in long-term multiple county investigations of narcotics trafficking.

Mr. Rubin is a former President of AHRMNY (The Association for Healthcare Risk Management of New York), the New York chapter of ASHRM, and a member of the New York State Bar Health Law section. Practice areas: medical malpractice, nursing home and long term care, disciplinary proceedings and professional licensing, healthcare law, food, drug and medical device litigation, miscellaneous professional liability, general liability, premises liability, and products liability defense.
