Description

Enjoy an evening of celebration to raise awareness and funds for mental health education, support and advocacy in Washtenaw County.

Whether you’ve experienced a mental health condition yourself or lived in support of someone with a mental health condition, you know that navigating the mental health system can sometimes be an insurmountable task. Your support will help NAMI Washtenaw County empower individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to better manage their health. Join a community movement to cure stigma so an “invisible” illness can finally become visible.

The Gala evening includes appetizers, dinner, dessert, and drinks. Enjoy the evening with live entertainment, silent auction and a special lantern ceremony event.

What kind of organization is NAMI Washtenaw County?

NAMI Washtenaw County is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation's largest mental health grassroots organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

What does NAMI Washtenaw County do?

NAMI Washtenaw County aims to educate, support and advocate for and with those who live with or in support of someone who lives with a mental health condition.

Education: The signature educational program series of our organization consists of two courses for adults, Family-to-Family and Peet-to-Peer, and one youth outreach program, Ending the Silence. Our adult courses occur over eight or twelve weeks, in Chelsea, Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, and cover everything from the basics of brain disorders and treatments to stigma-reducing advocacy techniques in a supportive, peer-led environment. To improve early intervention rates and ensure that youth in our community are prepared to identify and seek support for themselves or a friend, a team of peers made up of both young adults and parents give presentations at local schools to students, parents and educators. To learn more about our educational outreach, please visit https://namiwc.org/about/mental-health-education/

Support: Our support groups take place throughout the year and serve a diverse range of groups including, young adults who live with a mental health condition, adults aged 31 and over with a mental health condition, all adults with a friend of family member who lives with a mental health condition, and parents of children who have contemplated or attempted suicide. For more information on our support groups, please visit https://namiwc.org/about/mental-health-support-groups/

Advocacy: NAMI Washtenaw County is an integral member of a mental health grassroots advocacy effort that extends from our local community all the way to the national level. This includes awareness raising discussions at local community organizations, schools and religious congregations. A big part of this work is supported by our NAMI Membership which welcomes you into both our local and national communities. The larger our membership, the greater our voice! If you're interested in supporting mental health advocacy by becoming a NAMI member you can do so by purchasing one of the membership included tickets below or through our website at https://namiwc.org/membership/ Want to learn more about NAMI Washtenaw's local advocacy work?
