Event description

Description

This 3-hr workshop will explore the voice using traditional yoga asana (postures), therapy ball rolling, breath awareness, visualization, meditation, restorative yoga, sounding, and singing.

This incredible exploration is rooted in the Wilson Method, which encourages the art of free voice, joyful singing and unbridled expression, empowering and inspiring the individual to increased somatic awareness. We will explore the subtle balance of power and surrender, and create a deeper understanding of our individual voices.

The aim of the workshop is to empower and inspire you to sing freely and with your own full expression, gaining more awareness of the connection between your voice, breath, and body.

Attention will be paid individually as we have different instruments and therefore require different tools to thrive.

This workshop is for all levels of experience and for anyone who wants to use their voice - whether you are a trained singer, or simply love to sing in the shower!

INSTRUCTOR BIO:

Ali is a 500-hr trained yoga teacher, licensed massage and bodywork therapist, voice teacher, and vocalist. She first discovered yoga as a musical theater performer when she kept losing her voice. That began more than a decade-long exploration of the voice through yoga and other physical practices, a healing journey that continues today.

Ali received her 200-hr training from Shanti Yoga in Nelson, BC in 2010, and her 500hr training in Yoga Therapy from the Asheville Yoga Center in Asheville, North Carolina in May 2017. She received her Massage Therapy training from the Asheville School of Massage & Yoga, in North Carolina, graduating in October 2017.

She is a trained vocalist and voice teacher in the Wilson Method, which encourages the art of free voice, joyful singing and unbridled expression, empowering and inspiring the individual to increased somatic awareness. Ali has been a performer for 15 years, and is passionate and curious about the healing that can occur through the voice-body connection. She is the founder of Singing and Yoga by the Sea retreats, which brings highly skilled facilitators together to create a weekend retreat of voice exploration. She just recently completed the Gettin’ Higher Community Choir Leadership Training in Victoria, BC, Canada in the fall. Her workshops are explorative in nature, encouraging empowerment through self-reflection, using the voice as a tool for self-discovery.
