Texas Monthly announces the kickoff event “Among the Outlaws: Live Music + Documentary Film + Conversations,” an exploration of the outlaw music movement featuring film clips from “They Called Us Outlaws”, spirited discussions, and performances by Joe Ely, Jessi Colter, Jack Ingram, and Holly Williams. The second annual Texas Monthly Edge of Texas, presented by VisitDallas, celebrates the most fascinating and entertaining subjects, stories, and people from across the state.

Two days of programming will kick off on Friday, September 7 with “Among the Outlaws: Live Music + Documentary Film + Conversations,” a special 90-minute program featuring a collection of film clips from They Called Us Outlaws,” a documentary series currently in production, live performances by legendary musicians including Joe Ely, Jessi Colter, Jack Ingram, and Holly Williams, and a panel discussion moderated by Executive Editor Michael Hall featuring Filmmaker Eric Geadelmann, Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum CEO Kyle Young, and some of the stars from the film. A portion of proceeds from this event will benefit Mack, Jack & McConaughey (MJ&M), the joint fundraising effort of Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, ACM Award-winning recording artist Jack Ingram, and ESPN analyst and Texas coaching legend Mack Brown.

On Saturday, September 8, Edge of Texas will bring Texas Monthly to life in a series of fascinating panel discussions between our editors and Texas thought leaders, as well as live storytelling as only Texas Monthly can do it. Throughout the day, festival goers will explore the best of Texas through several distinct lenses: culture, business, cuisine, film, politics, and music.

At the Saturday night finale event, celebrate with Texas Monthly at Texas Coming Together, a fusion of statewide creativity. Indulge in cuisine by top Texas chefs including Bruno Davaillon of Bullion, John Tesar of Knife, Callie Speer of Holy Roller, Katherine Clapner of Dude, Sweet Chocolate, Pitmasters Ronnie Killen of Killen's Barbecue, Jordan Jackson of Bodacious Bar-B-Q, and pop-ups from BIRD Bakery and Antonelli’s Cheese Shop. Enjoy one-of-a-kind experiences designed by the state’s most innovative minds including a virtual reality experience by SubVRsive, a Kendra Scott Color Bar, and interactive art installations curated by SWOON, the studio. Live entertainment will surround the evening showcasing the talents of the Minor Mishap Marching band and DJ Sober, paired with exotic cocktails and the Hello Trouble Hall beer bar.

General Information

When is the event?

The Kickoff Party will take place on Friday, September 7, 2018 at The Belo Mansion. VIP doors @ 6:30 PM, GA doors @ 8:00 PM.

The Storytelling + Discussion will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at The Belo Mansion from 10am-4:45pm.

The Finale Celebration will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at The Empire Room from 7pm-11pm.

Where is the event?

Both Friday evening (Kickoff) and Saturday daytime (Storytelling & Discussion) will take place at The Belo Mansion & Pavilion, located at 2101 Ross Ave, Dallas, TX 75201.

Saturday night’s Final Celebration is at The Empire Room, located at 1225 N Riverfront Blvd, Dallas, TX 75207.

What to wear?

Friday Night (Kickoff Party) – Cocktail attire

Saturday Day (Storytelling + Discussion) – Casual attire

Do I need to bring cash/credit cards for purchases?

We recommend bringing cash/credit cards for extra purchases.

Can I buy alcohol at the events?

For the kickoff party (Friday Night) & Storytelling + Discussion(Saturday Night), alcoholic drinks are included.

What happens if it rains during one of the events?

The show will go on rain or shine!

Are the events kid-friendly?

No. The Edge of Texas events are 21 and older only.

Are dogs/pets allowed at the event?

The Texas Monthly events team does love dogs, but only service dogs will be allowed on property.

Is smoking allowed at the events?

No.

Ticketing Information

What’s included with tickets?

For Friday night’s kickoff party, there are two ticket levels:

VIP tickets includes a $50 donation to our charity partner, an hour pre-show with an open bar, hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment, and a special Edge of Texas poster (while supplies last), followed by a 90-minute performance with live music, never-been-seen-before documentary film clips, and discussions, plus an open bar.

General Admission tickets include a 90-minute performance with live music, never-been-seen-before documentary film clips, discussions, and open bar.

For Saturday’s daytime Storytelling + Discussion, all panels and daytime programming are included. For Saturday night’s finale celebration, all food, beverages, and entertainment are included.

Tickets are non-refundable.

Is a Texas Monthly subscription included with my ticket?

A one-year subscription, valued at @12.00, is included with a VIP Weekend Badge. To cancel this subscription and receive a full subscription refund ($12.00 value), please email Jcarrizales@texasmonthly.com with your full name and mailing address. Please allow 2-4 weeks for refund.

*Please note that you have 30 days from the date of your VIP ticket or subscription purchase to request a refund. After this time, refund requests will no longer be accepted.

If for any reason within thirty days of your VIP ticket purchase you wish to cancel your subscription, we will send a full subscription refund for the value of the subscription indicated at checkout ($12 Value).

If the Postal Service alerts us that your magazine is undeliverable, we have no further obligation unless we receive a corrected address within one year. Print subscriptions available in the U.S. only. Please allow 4-6 weeks for your first issue to arrive in the mail.
