The Dynamic Leadership Institute (DLI) of WKU-O is a three phase program designed to teach participants interpersonal skills, leadership dynamics, and career/professional development strategies. The program strives to enhance self-awareness regarding personal strengths and weaknesses; to create a better understanding of leadership and influence; to develop stronger leadership and interpersonal skills; and to sharpen participants’ professional skills.
What is LEADERSHIP?
DLI defines leadership as the ability to influence others through of one’s personal power. Self-awareness, communication skills, emotion management, the ability to effectively work with others, effective decision making, leadership adaptability and problem solving represent some of the factors that influence one’s personal power.
PHASE 2 (three leadership development sessions)
Leadership Style/Introduction to Lead 360
Participants become more knowledgeable about their prevalent leadership style, examine and discuss the value of situational leadership, and become more aware of their leadership strengths and weaknesses. A peer feedback instrument is used for participants to discover if their leadership self-perception matches the perception others have about their leadership.
This session encourages participants to think about their emotional responses and how these responses affect their ability to influence others. The five step model of Emotional Intelligence is used to help participants create intentional strategies that lead improved emotion management.
Conflict Management/Consensus Building
Participants work on a consensus building exercise that highlights the effectiveness and challenges of building consensus verses other forms of decision making. Other aspects of this session include looking for win-win conflict resolutions rather than win-loss outcomes and examining behaviors that enhance productive decision making.
