Event description

Description

As part of Rufus Leonard's Psychology of Brand Experience series, we are delighted to host our latest breakfast talk, “The DNA of Disruption” featuring a special guest panel of brands that have pioneered disruption in their respective sectors.

We’ll be discussing what it takes to be a disruptor; how to survive from start-up to scale up; the difference between innovation and disruption, and where the next big disruption may be.

Doors open at 8.30am for breakfast with the talk starting at 9am. We hope you are able to join us for a morning of topical and lively discussion.

Please RSVP to: marketing@rufusleonard.com by Tuesday 17th October to secure your place.

Our guest panellists are:

Sandra Schembri, CEO, House of St Barnabas

Sandra is the CEO at The House of St Barnabas (HoSB), (AKA Chief Encouragement officer, as St Barnabas is the Patron Saint of Encouragement). It is an organisation which works to create a fairer society, creating a future where lasting work is a reality for those affected by homelessness. Sandra was awarded Charity Bank’s “Change Maker” award.

This year HoSB has been named one of Nesta’s 50 new radicals, won the coveted London Homelessness Awards as well as being recognised as story tellers, and a social enterprise to watch by SE100, SEUK, D&AD, Dot London and Third Sector Awards.

Janis Thomas, Marketing Director, Birchbox

Janis is Director of Marketing at Birchbox UK. Janis has previously held positions at Lebara, Creative Content UK, and FilmFlex Movies.

Birchbox is a monthly subscription service that delivers to subscribers a box of selected samples of cosmetics and beauty products. The brand was established in 2010 by Katia Beauchamp and Hayley Barna, both graduates of Harvard Business School. Upon subscribing, the customer takes a survey called a “beauty profile” that aims to customize their future selections to better suit their preferences. With more than 800 brand partners, Birchbox’s incentive is that the consumer will choose to purchase a full-sized product of whatever sample they’ve grown to like from the Birchbox website afterwards. Birchbox Man was launched in 2012 to cater to men’s grooming and lifestyle needs.

Rich Westman, Founder, Kaido Group

Rich Westman is the founder and CEO of Birmingham based health analytics start-up Kaido. A former Loughborough University Sports Science and Business Graduate, Rich spent the early part of his career supporting athletes at some of the UK's largest professional sports clubs and institutions including Leicester Tigers RFC, Worcester Warriors RFC and most recently the Lawn Tennis Association. Building on his wealth of experience gained in professional sport, Rich created Kaido to answer a simple question: How can we make patient generated health data more useful? Rich has most recently being nominated as a Future Face for Technology and Innovation by Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.

By combining aggregated health data from sources such as wearables, apps and patient care records, Kaido helps clinicians create more personalised preventative care models. Kaido has the potential to revolutionise healthcare in terms of effectiveness and cost. Since its launch in late 2015, Kaido has gone on to become one of Birmingham's fastest growing tech start-ups, attracting investment from private and public bodies such as Creative England and EIT Health and names Microsoft as one of its partners. Clients include RWE, npower, as well as a number of NHS Trusts and SMEs across England. Kaido recently featured as one of the top 100 globally disruptive tech start-ups to watch in 2017 in Marketing Week, and won the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network's Economic Impact Award.
