We request the pleasure of your company at the latest University of Chicago Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series event.

The event will be held on Wednesday16 February, 2011 from 7.30am - 10.30am at The University of Chicago, Chicago Booth London Campus, The Woolgate Exchange, 25 Basinghall Street, London EC2V 5HA.

This event is open to alumni and friends of the University.

The event is free and spaces are limited; to avoid disappointment, please reserve your place by the 7th of February 2011.

This event is organised with the support of the Chicago Booth Energy Network (BEN).

About the speakers:

Jeffrey Currie PhD '96 is the global head of Commodities Research in the Global Investment Research division of Goldman Sachs. He is responsible for conducting research on commodity market dynamics in the context of corporate risk management programs, short and long-term commodity investment strategies and asset allocation. Jeff joined Goldman Sachs in 1996 and was named managing director in 2002 and partner in 2008.

Prior to joining the firm, Jeff taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in Microeconomics and Econometrics at the University of Chicago and served as the associate editor of Resource and Energy Economics. He also worked as consulting economist, specialising in energy and other microeconomic issues at Ernst and Young, LLP and Economic Insight, Inc. In addition, he has advised numerous government agencies in the US, EU and Russia.  Jeff earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago in 1996.

 

Javier Blas is the Financial Times’ commodities editor. He covers natural resources’ markets, investment and regulation trends in commodities. He has reported on international economy for both the Financial Times and the Spanish business daily, Expansion.

Javier Blas was born in Spain and received a BA / MA in journalism from the University of Navarra, Spain, where he also studied economics. He also studied political communication at Sheffield University, United Kingdom.
