Event description

Description

The DAVID STREETER TRIO brings music of the Desert Southwest to the JazzTalk Live stage, at Wunderkammer Company, September 8th, opening A Big Apple Jazz Club’s fall series.

Opening the Club’s fall lineup the 2nd Sunday in September the David Streeter Trio will present music that has rarely been heard in Fort Wayne. Playing a variety of Native American and desert rim blown flutes, David will take you on a journey through the desert plains, canyons, and caves of the Southwestern USA. Accompanying David on this musical sojourn is Michael Patterson on bass and guitar, and Colin Boyd handling percussion. Patterson co-founded A Big Apple Jazz Club Series with Poet Ketu Oladuwa.

Originally from Pittsburgh, David earned his B.S. in Music Education from Duquesne University, and taught for four years in Pittsburgh, after spending four years with the TAC Band in Langley, VA. After two years on the road David settled in Fort Wayne, where he was the band director at South Side High School for 29 years. Upon retirement he served as assistant band director and worked in the Jazz Studies department at IPFW in Fort Wayne.

He first became interested in the Native American flute in the late 1980’s after hearing recordings by R Carlos Nakai. Starting on the traditional Native American flute, he became interested in the rim blown flutes and purchased his first flute from Michael Graham Allen in 2005. Currently he is performing in and around Fort Wayne both as a saxophonist and Native American flutist.
