Description

Midtown Vanguard Jazz Series at CLARA Presents:

THE DAVE BASS AFRO-CUBAN JAZZ QUINTET

November 10, 2019

Dave brings his Afro-Cuban Jazz Quintet back to the Midtown Vanguard Jazz Series after a standing room only/sold old show here last February. The Quintet's five all-star musicians will perform Dave's originals, Dave's arrangements of Cuban classics and Dave's arrangements of beautiful standards in the Cuban style. Dave's last album, NYC SESSIONS hit #5 on the national jazz charts, JazzWeek, and received a coveted 4-STARS form DownBeat which named it "one of the best albums of 2015." NEA Jazz Master and four-time Grammy winner, Phil Woods said, "Dave is a sophisticated composer and pianist. His music is street music taken up to Fifth Avenue. It's high art but it still has a street value. You can still feel the blood and the body." The Dave Bass Afro-Cuban Jazz Quintet will also be playing some new tunes from Dave's July 2019 release, NO BOUNDARIES.

Featuring:

Dave Bass - piano

Jeff Sanford - flute, clarinet, saxophone

Ernesto Marzar Kindelan- upright bass

Carlos Caro - congo, bongo, perc.

Colin Douglas - drum kit, timbales
