The DARE! Sessions (The FULL Course)

Take the Project DARE! challenge to complete Daring tasks that increase your confidence, teach self-compassion & help you love your body. This is a course that combines celebrating the body, finding out about yourself, learning new skills, performing, having fun and feeling fabulous!

Project DARE! is a rollercoaster of exercises specifically designed to boost self love and celebrate the human body. The DARE! sessions (or series of workshops) are primarily theatre based. A range of bespoke techniques are played out to get Darers (participants) to demonstarate their unique abilities. The sessions have the Darers displaying their skills without their realisation.

You too can ake part in the 12 unique body confidence sessions which utilise different techniques that teach and hone tools that tap away at insecurities, bring out confidence and inspire love of the body in a celebratory & innovative way. We do this through group exercises, performance techniques and the use of DAREs!​

Your journey begins with:

A plethora of performance and arts skills including drama, dance, drawing, devising, improvisation, movement, forum theatre, incorporating inspiring texts into your work and more!​

Here is a break down of each of the 12 unique workshops. You get ALL of these on the full course, named The DARE! Sessions. There is also the option to book individual workshops if you prefer. To do this just follow the links and book via the website.

1. DARE! to metamorphosize

An introduction to DARE! – the perfect first class to get to know your groove.

What you will do:

– Explore what it means to DARE!​
– Put your looks into perspective and open up the possibility you could LOVE your body
– Learn basic and practical body confidence techniques​

This session is inspired by:

– Drama and movement​ techniques
– Games and team activities

2. DARE! to delve deeper

Define what beauty means to you and not what society tells you.

What you will do:

– Explore the history of beauty and what it means in society
– Define what beauty means to you and identify it in yourself
– Challenge unrealistic standards: reflect and interpret what messages ultimately mean for you

This DARE! session is inspired by:

– Drama and self expression techniques
– Presentation techniques and delivery
– Team activities

3. DARE! to be inspired

Be inspired by influential figures, famous texts and relevant theories to explore the impact of language on your body and mind.​

What you will do:

– Exploratory text work playing with scenes from various body image literature​
– Improvise comedy scenes and characterisation​
– Draw inspiration from current body image activists

This session is inspired by:

– Drama and improvisation techniques​
– Poetry​
– Classic body image literature​

4. DARE! to let loose

DARE! to dance (you don’t need to be a dancer to brave this class) – you will use dance for confidence​.

What you will do​:

– Learn an eclectic mix of popular dance moves from across the ages​
– Understand how the use of movement/exercise and your posture can boost your body confidence​
– Master a dance routine

This session is inspired by:

– Various dance styles​
– Characterisation technique​
– Learn improved posture alignment​

5. DARE! to love yourself

Are you out of touch with what your body needs? Can your senses point you in the right direction?​

What you will do​:

– Explore the relationship between your senses and the food you eat​
– Focus on Mother Nature’s guide to nourishing your body​
– Learn to look at food in a different way ​

This session is inspired by​:

– Drama techniques
– Trust exercises and discussion​

6. DARE! to trust your body

How can you get body confident from learning more about how your body works?

What you will do​:

– Investigate the inner workings of your immune system​
– Take part in a human experiment!​
– Discover how the food you eat directly supports your body functions and how you can nurture your body from the inside and out​

This session is inspired by​:

– Drama and experimentation​ techniques
– Games and treasure hunt​

7. DARE! to be unconventional

There is abundant messaging in this world telling you to reject your body. Learn how to fight back​.

What you will do​:

– Learn the current facts/statistics regarding body image in the UK​
– Navigate through the world of body image on digital media​
– Explore lifestyles depicted in TV/magazines and act out different interpretation of these ideals​

This session is inspired by​:

– Drama and interpretation techniques​
– Team activities and games

8. DARE! to express your individuality

Let us introduce you to the world of cabaret! Escape your comfort zone and use your body confidently​.

What you will do​:

– Learn classic moves of cabaret: release your inner cabaret character​
– Learn a dance routine and perform to the group​
– Through the use of cabaret characters, use your body for movement, expression and uncover relationships between sexuality, femininity/masculinity

This session is inspired by​:

– Dance (cabaret)​
– Drama and music​
– Performances and routines​

9. DARE! to challenge

Explore the body as your instrument. Break free from unhealthy behavioral patterns​.

What you will do​:

– Experiment with your “vicious circle orchestra​”
– Challenge your thought processes​
– Learn positive affirmations to break negative cycles ​

This session is inspired by​:

– Drama and improvisation techniques​
– Acting and voices work
– Team activities and games​

10. DARE! to transform

You will work with images and forum theatre to break free from oppression.

  • Augusto Boal is a Brazilian theatre practitioner who famously created the “theatre of the oppressed”
  • We take inspiration from Boal to run games and activities that explore images, stories and how to fight oppression
  • Write personal letters to your body

11. DARE! to lead yourself

You will find out how to access the most powerful version of you​.

  • Use the idea of the superhero as a catalyst for identifying your own super powers​
  • Recognise that you will come up against resistance in the outside world and discover how you can respond to this
  • Devise your own body confidence story​

12. DARE! to shoot for the sky

Your Daring finale!

  • Perform a Daring group showcase​
  • Undertake a full group evaluation of what it really means to DARE! and be self compassionate

And lots more besides!

By the end of the sessions, the Darers (particiants) will come away knowing what makes them unique, loving their body more than ever before and will have the skill and knowledge to recapture this incredible feeling whenever they need to.

Project DARE! sessions empower the Darers to think about themselves in different ways. It is a programme focused on body image, but also a catalyst for enriching one’s life. This will manifest itself through each Darers growth in confidence, self-expression and outlook. The workshops are energised, fun and lead in a celebratory manner. Project DARE! is a not-for-profit enterprise with all monies going into the support and running of its programs.
