The Dam Ride
Fri, Apr 21, 2017, 9:00 AM – Sat, Apr 22, 2017, 5:00 PM CDT
We are so excited about our second annual Dam Ride! We will be leaving the morning of Friday, April 21st from Alabama Power Headquarters (600 18th Street North, Birmingham, AL 35291). There will be overnight parking available for all of our riders in the guest lot across the street from the building. Please arrive no later than 8:45am. We plan to roll out by 9:00am. We will be providing SAG and luggage transport for the ride. The luggage truck will be parked in front of the building.
We will have lunch at Broken Eagle Recreation Park (53707 AL-25, Vandiver, AL 35176). Those meeting us in Vandiver please arrive no later than 11:15am. We plan to be back on the road by noon so this will give us time to eat lunch and get everything packed up. We should arrive at the Dam mid-afternoon. Then we will enjoy corn hole, boat rides, and an Italian feast for dinner provided by the Power Company. We will have linens, cots, and towels for everyone staying the Dam houses. For those camping don’t forget to put your supplies into the luggage truck.
Saturday we will have two route options. First a loop to Mitchell Dam and the trek back to Birmingham with the shorter option for those parked in Vandiver. We will be sending route maps and gps links soon. The route is marked and there will be plenty of signs. A big thank you to Charles Rossman, Jim Heilbron, Herbie Johnson, and John Morris for all the support and planning you have done for the ride. I really appreciate all your hard work, I know it is going to be a great event. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions leading up to the ride.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There are several parking/transportation options for the ride. Parking will be avaiable Friday morning at the Alabama Power Headquaters. For those meeting us in Vandiver we will have secure parking there as well. If you want to meet us at the dam Friday afternoon and ride Saturday we will provide parking there as well. We do have transportation back to the Power Company Saturday for anyone who needs a ride back.
What should I bring into the event?
Bring the supplies you will need for riding each day, your overnight bag, extra tubes, any GU or other energy supplments, and camping supplies if you plan to camp. We will provide all your meals, bedding for those not camping, and snacks for along the route ech day.
