About this Event

The 2019 CS-Can Annual Meeting

Computer Science Canada (CS-Can | Info-Can) is inviting you to join them at the 2019 annual meeting on June 2nd-4th at McGill University. Similar to previous years, this year's annual meeting will include an Awards Dinner to recognize and celebrate the 2018 CS-Can | Info-Can award winners, an Annual General Meeting (AGM) open to all members of CS-Can | Info-Can, a meeting of the department chairs, and a meeting of the CS-Can | Info-Can Board of Directors. For the first time this year, the Student and Postdoc Advisory Committee (SPAC) of CS-Can | Info-Can is organizing the CS-Can Student Symposium in conjunction with the CS-Can Annual Meeting. SPAC is inviting students, postdocs, and all members attending the CS-Can Annual Meeting to join them for some or all of the Symposium's activities.

For more information about the CS-Can Student Symposium, and the three calls for participation (Lightning Pitches, Research Poster Presentations, and CS Challenges Workshops), please see the symposium website.

Which ticket option is right for me?

This depends on who you are, and what portions of the Annual Meeting and/or Student Symposium you wish you attend.

If you are a department chair, faculty member, or industry member, then you may choose a ticket option depending on which events you wish to attend. The "Awards Dinner" ticket is for Monday only, including admission to the NSERC presentation, AGM, and Awards Dinner. You will be asked to indicate if you are attending the Chairs Meeting, Board Meeting, or neither. The "CS-Can Student Symposium - Non-Student" ticket covers both Monday and Tuesday, including the Awards Dinner on Monday evening.

If you are a student or postdoc who wants to attend the CS-Can Student Symposium, then you should select the "CS-Can Student Symposium - Student Rate" ticket (either Early or Regular, depending on which is available). Please note that these tickets include admission to the Awards Dinner. You will be asked to confirm your attendance in the system, and we will contact you again before the Symposium to confirm your seat availability. Seats will be assigned in registration order while quantities last. Students and postdocs are also welcome to attend only the Awards Dinner, or only the NSERC presentation and AGM, if they so wish.

If you are an award winner or a guest of an award winner, then you should choose the "Awards Dinner" ticket, and enter your special code for a complimentary ticket. You may optionally choose to attend the CS-Can Student Symposium, if you so wish. Keynote speakers for the student symposium are not required to register for the student symposium.

If you are a sponsor, then you may choose any of the three ticket options you wish, and enter your special code for a complimentary ticket. If you plan to provide a lightning pitch or run a booth at the student symposium, please choose the student symposium ticket.

If you are only interested in the NSERC presentation and/or the AGM, then you should select the (free) "CS-Can Annual Meeting" ticket, and indicate which of these events you wish to attend.

More information:

The CS-Can Student Symposium will begin in the evening of Sunday June 2nd with an informal gathering at the Community Mixer, where everyone is welcome to mingle and enjoy refreshments.

There will be three parallel activities during the day on Monday, June 3rd: Chairs Meeting, Board Meeting, and Student Symposium. These will be followed by an NSERC presentation and the AGM, which are open to all CS-Can members. The meetings of the department chairs and the Board of Directors will both run concurrently from 9 AM to around 3 PM. Meanwhile, the CS-Can Student Symposium attendees will start off with lightning pitches to preview the rest of the day, followed by a series of workshops dedicated to discussing and addressing challenges facing the community of computer scientists in Canada (e.g., the environmental impact of technology, or the growing gap between those who can afford access to technology and those who can't), and finally a student research poster session to highlight recent advances in computing research in Canada. Throughout the day’s activities, sponsor tables will be set up to allow networking during breaks.

In the evening, everyone will gather for the Awards Dinner to celebrate the success of the 2018 CS-Can | Info-Can award winners. There will be 8 award recipients in three different categories: Distinguished Dissertation Award, Outstanding Young CS Researcher Prizes, and Lifetime Achievement Awards.

On the morning of Tuesday, June 4th SPAC is inviting all members at the CS-Can Annual Meeting to join them for a series of three keynote presentations given by some of the CS-Can | Info-Can award winners. Following this, in the afternoon, the CS-Can Student Symposium will conclude with a student social activity.
