Description

Join nationally-recognized photographers and storytellers Natalie Fobes and Kristie McLean for an intimate, day-long workshop celebrating artistry, education and self-expression. Explore how essential elements of design and light can enhance your photography of people and place. This interactive workshop includes activities to inspire your creative spirit, technical tutorials and indoor/outdoor practice sessions to comfortably try out new skills and ideas.

Bring a digital camera you are comfortable using and has manual mode options. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

Morning coffee, catered lunch, and afternoon snack included.


ABOUT NATALIE: Natalie Fobes is one of the most diverse photographers in the country. The Pulitzer Prize finalist has shot assignments for National Geographic Magazine, Smithsonian, Audubon, and other major magazines. Her images of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill are iconographic and she is known as the "salmon lady" due to her 10-year project photographing and writing about the salmon and the cultures of the salmon around the Pacific Rim. She has won over 200 international, national and regional awards for her work.

Natalie's fine art portraiture and her wedding photography have also won national recognition.The author of three coffee-table books has been the recipient of many grants and commissions. Her work is included in public, private and corporate collections, including the Burke Museum, The Seattle Aquarium and the Smithsonian Natural History Museum.

Natalie regularly leads lighting, portrait, wildlife and story-telling workshops. She has three photography courses on Linked-In Learning, formerly lynda.com. For four years Natalie was an adjunct professor in the acclaimed commercial photography program at Seattle Central College and taught graduate level courses at Ohio University.

In 1995 she co-founded Blue Earth Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to helping photographers and filmmakers shoot documentary stories about the environment, endangered cultures, and social issues.


ABOUT KRISTIE: Kristie McLean is a multimedia global storyteller, community advocate, and a certified coach/facilitator skilled in creating environments for transformative learning that inspire creativity, innovation and heart-centered leadership.

Kristie’s humanitarian efforts have led her to more than 50 countries on 6 continents. Since 2010, she has championed an Obstetric Fistula project in Ethiopia, developing income generation projects and advocacy for women suffering from this preventable childbirth injury.

Her photography has been displayed at the 2nd and 3rd global summits on Peace Through Tourism in Switzerland and Thailand as well as exhibits in New York and the Pacific NW. Her images have been published in the coffee table book Women of the World: Afghanistan and Guinea-Bissau, Hamlin Fistula and SalaamGarage: Stories of Ethiopia From 12 Citizen Journalists, and other publications. Kristie's work was showcased on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” and she was the first recipient to receive Relief Rider International’s “Social Entrepreneur Scholarship.”

She has served as Vice President of Blue Earth Alliance’s board of directors and works daily to help others connect their authentic gifts and vision with the needs of the world.
