Event description
Come hear 2 judges, and 3 veteran journalists speaking about the effect news coverage of the Courts has on the public and on judges.

About this Event

Please join us as distinguished jurists from the federal and state courts and veteran journalists talk about press coverage of the courts, including the impact of economic and technological changes in the news media and the affect on courts, judges, and journalists.

Bringing their different perspectives and a wealth of experience, our panel will discuss:-

How have changes in the media business affected the way journalists report on the Courts? What can judges say – and what can’t they discuss – when reporters call? Do news reports affect the public’s perception of (and confidence in) the courts? Would cameras in the courts provide a solution to press coverage issues, or make problems worse?

Panelists:

Hon. Virginia Phillips, Chief Judge of the Central District Court

Hon. Amy D. Hogue, Los Angeles Superior Court, Media Committee Chair

Mel Opotowsky: former long-time Press-Enterprise journalist/editor/ a founder of the First Amendment Coalition
