Event description

Description

In the final report of the 2008 National Commission on Infant Mortality entitled The Courage to Love, Rev. Dr. Ronald David and his colleague commissioners challenged the conventional wisdom which ascribes poor pregnancy outcomes to inadequate medical care and/or bad maternal behavior. Rather, the Commission found that threats to the health of childbearing women and their offspring are a direct consequence of social injustices and inequalities. In this lecture and panel presentation, Dr. David will discuss these findings and offer his wisdom as a physician leader and a theologian about relational strategies for improving birth outcomes and eliminating inequities in infant mortality. Rev. Dr. David will be joined by a panel of community, advocacy and health care leaders to discuss how these ideas look when they are practically applied.
