The Texas Tech University School of Music presents its annual opera, Monterverdi’s “The Coronation of Poppea.”
Set in ancient Rome, “The Coronation of Poppea” is an Italian opera by Claudio Monteverdi first performed in Venice in 1643. One of the first operas to use historical events and people, it describes how Poppea, mistress of the Roman emperor Nero, is able to achieve her ambition to be crowned empress.
