About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Join us for an engaging online symposium that marks the launch of the final research report from the BA/Leverhulme-funder project The Complex Web in Memetic Warfare: Societal Dynamics, Interactions and Impact, led by Dr Tine Munk as Principal Investigator. This project is a collaboration between Nottingham Trent University and Aarhus University, and we are excited to share the outcomes of this work.

The symposium will take place on Wednesday, 9 July 2025, from 12:00 to 3:00 PM (GMT+1). This event will explore the role of social media, online platforms, and digital communication in contemporary warfare, alongside the launch of our final report.

This research explores the strategies and motivations behind the North Atlantic Fella Organization (NAFO), highlighting how its members use memes as instruments of defensive memetic warfare to challenge Russian disinformation. Based on survey data and interviews with NAFO members and Ukrainian citizens, the report investigates how memes operate as digital weapons within hybrid warfare, and how these actions are perceived by those directly involved.
