Polo in the United States Armed Forces can be traced back to 1892. The sport was used as a way to enhance officer horsemanship skills and helped give rise to the sport's popularity in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Polo's Armed Forces roots in Chicago date back to 1949 when the Illinois National Guard organized an indoor league at the Chicago Avenue Armory, now the Museum of Contemporary Art. On this day, Oak Brook Polo honors Armed Forces servicemen and its veterans in a remake of the Oak Brook Polo vs. Black Horse Troop match.
