Description

The CST Alumni/ae Association invites you to the

Colwell Endowed Lecture, PUMP THE BRAKES BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE: AN ETHICAL, THEOLOGICAL DISCUSSION OF OUR RAMPANT CONSUMERIST CULTURE

Before the lecture join us for a special Alumni/ae Reunion Brunch to celebrate the classes of '58, '67. '77, '87, '97 & '07. Alumni/ae Brunch is the perfect opportunity for alumni/ae from all classes to come together and reconnect. The lecture is open free and open to the public.

“PUMP THE BRAKES BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE: AN ETHICAL, THEOLOGICAL DISCUSSION OF OUR RAMPANT CONSUMERIST CULTURE” highlights the idea that environmental ethics and environmental theology are often about giving voice to previously marginalized voices. What can a conscientious shopper and person of faith do to combat the problem of “fast fashion” – which often involves the environmental costs of production and exploitation of people of color? This vibrant cross talk combines the passions of two renowned experts – Dr. Kao, a professor of ethics, and Dr. Bowersox, a professor of environmental and earth sciences – who will guide us toward ways to purposefully “live out” what we believe is right and healthy for the environment and humankind in a consumer-based Western world.

DR. GRACE YIA-HEI KAO
is the Associate Professor of Ethics & serves as the co-director of the Center for Sexuality, Gender and Religion at CST

DR. JOE BOWERSOX III
is the Professor of Environmental & Earth Sciences, Dempsey Endowed Chair Specialty: Environmental Policy & Politics Director, Center for Sustainable Communities at Willamette University
