About this Event
In the lead up to 2021 which will usher in the 40th year of HIV/AIDS, the World AIDS Museum will provide private tours of this incredible collection in our new location in the ArtServe facility, as part of our 40 Days of Giving fundraising campaign. Each of these tours, led by WAM staff, will take place at scheduled times. At select times (November 13, December 1 and 21) we will have the artist join us!
40 years--From the first reported cases in 1981 to the present, the world has seen HIV/AIDS progress from a death sentence into a manageable, chronic illness. In one generation, we have made significant advances in HIV prevention and care. Today, groundbreaking medications offer hope for a long, healthy life to people who are living with, or at risk for, HIV/AIDS.
While we’ve accomplished so much, there is still more work to be done to break down the barriers and harmful stereotypes that still plague this disease. As long as stigma and misconception pervade conversation, we must find new ways to talk about HIV and AIDS.
Art plays an important part in helping us tell our stories.
Produced by local artist Toby Gotesman Schneier, The Colors of HIV is 17-work series that reflects many different aspects of HIV/AIDS. The paintings serve as visual representations of the emotional moments experienced by individuals and families whose lives have been affected by the virus. Come see the works in person by registering for a private tour.
As a reminder, all pieces featured in the exhibit are for sale with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the World AIDS Museum and Educational Center. Your purchases will help us continue to curate beautiful exhibits, provide important educational programming and foster meaningful dialogue in our community. Together, we can end stigma and continue documenting the human experience of this disease until the last story is told.
