Event description

Description

The CLA Confab is the premier monthly gathering in Chicago to showcase what's hot in literacy. As we continue to envision what a 100% literate Chicago looks like, the Confab will bring together speakers across our member network and the city to share top-level highlights from their work, connect around shared goals, and work toward collaborative solutions to the persisting gaps in literacy facing our city today.

This winter, we are exploring the theme of Equity Issues in our network with a final focus on Diversity (providing students with opportunities to understand and empathize with experiences and viewpoints that differ from their own, whether based on race, culture, gender, faith, sexual orientation, and more, through literacy). Join us as we hear about great programs from member leaders the YMCA of Metro Chicago, HEART, and Facing History & Ourselves and from Kate Lapinski with the Chicago Public LIbrary about their adult learning circles program.

We'll spend the last 45 minutes building on our collaborative work over the last two quarters to convene working groups around increasing equity and access to literacy across Chicago.
