Event description

Description

'Tis the season for sharing delicious holiday treats! The December installment of the Children's Culinary Institute will focus on giving the gift of good food. In this class, every young chef will bake from scratch their own assortment of holiday cookies and sweets, as well as designing their own gift basket in which to put their homemade goodies. In a fun and supportive environment, our young chefs will learn the basics of baking, proper culinary techniques, health through nutrition, and sustainability. Best of all, our young chefs will leave our kitchen with their baskets brimming with treats to give as a special gift to a lucky recipient of their choosing. Who's ready to spread some holiday joy and make the culinary JUMP? Ages 8-12 years old. Registration ends on December 15th. Only 15 spaces available.

When: Saturday, December 17th from 10 AM to 12:00 PM

Where: JUMP Share Studio on the first floor.

Cost: $45.00

"I've been an elementary and middle school teacher for 21 years and a foodie all of my life. A few years ago I decided to combine my two passions--teaching children and cooking--and hatched the idea for the Children's Culinary Institute. After that, I took the big jump to dedicate myself to the intense study of all things food, from how food and culture intermingle, to sustainability, to all the skills a great cook would employ. I've traveled to many wonderful places, both far and near, have eaten from Nampa to Naples, as well as meeting many of the best food-minds in our region. I've been on an amazing food journey and I'm so excited to take the children of our community on their own journey to discover the joy of cooking."

What inspires you?

"I believe deeply in the growth mindset, that you can cultivate your abilities and improve your intelligence, learn perseverance and resilience, and that the view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life. As I travel, whether in Chamonix, France or the Willamette Valley, I'm inspired to learn everything I can about the food I eat and the people I meet. It's so much fun--yes, learning can be fun! What really inspires me, though, is when I can take what I've learned and teach it to someone else. To see my passion transferred into a young person, seeing them light up with a new interest or understanding, is so incredibly rewarding. I'm inspired to push myself to grow and my students to grow, encouraging us all toward great adventures and the best possible versions of ourselves."
