Description

The Child Leads the Way: Child Centered Play Therapy Training

Course Description: Child Centered Play Therapy is a core skill for helping children, ages 3 to 12, who are experiencing behavioral or emotional difficulties. CCPT is a humanistic therapy based on the premise that play is the language of children, that growth and healing develops from fully and completely accepting the child exactly as she or he is and that safety and structure are essential ingredients. This course will cover the foundation and principals of CCPT, teach the skills, increase understanding of play themes, including trauma play and discuss ways to include parents. Course will include videos and experiential skill practice.

Learning Objectives
1. Summarize the principals of Child Centered Play Therapy (as developed by Virginia Axline)
2. List and describe the basic 4 skills of Child Centered Play Therapy
3. Perform the 4 basic skills of Child Centered Play Therapy
4. Name 1 type of presenting situation for which CCPT would usually be contra-indicated
6. Describe how CCPT is helpful for children who have experienced trauma

Who should attend: Counselors, therapists, probation/parole officers and medical personnel working in mental health or addiction treatment programs.
