Event description

Description

Dr. Ed Tolhurst will join us at Ashton Sixth Form College on Tuesday 4th July to talk about the challenges of researching the experiences of dementia.

Ed is a lecturer in Health Research and award leader for Foundation Year and BSc Health and Social Care at Staffordshire University. Staffordshire University are the College’s validating partner for higher education programmes.

About the topic:

Dementia is a condition associated with loss of memory, changes to behaviour and communication difficulties. This presents challenges to the person with the condition and their family members. This also means that our approaches to researching dementia need to be sensitive to such challenges. This presentation draws upon data from research where men with dementia were interviewed together with their partners. Interviewing people jointly helps to access to the views of people with dementia and their partners. This approach is also valuable as it shows how individual perspectives can be supported, but also challenged within conversational exchanges.

About the talk:

This talk is an open and public lecture, free of charge. It has been organised in conjunction with the Foundation Year Health team at the college – a pre degree (access) programme that supports progression to undergraduate study e.g. Health and Social Care, Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic, for those 18plus. If you work within the health sector, we would very much appreciate you sharing details of this talk with people who may want to commence studying health related awards. It is open to those interested in studying, those already working in health and care and those already studying health related programmes.

Further details:

The lecture will take place in Ashton Sixth Form College’s lecture theatre. Arrivals from 6pm onwards, lecture commencing 6.30pm. Please arrive via the Darnton Road reception and sign in or arrival. Some car parking available. Lift available.
